Academic Year

Graduation Requirements
The State of Florida requires twenty-four credits for high-school graduation. HARID students must earn 16 credits through academic courses and 8 credits through fine-arts courses. Graduates receive their high-school diploma from The Harid Conservatory.

Fees
All students receive tuition scholarships that cover the fees for dance and related courses, selected cultural and educational field trips, and transportation relating to the above activities. Fees are charged for academic tuition, room and board, and dance clothing and supplies. Financial aid is available to qualified students.

Academic Curriculum
All HARID students receive their high-school academic education via a virtual-school program operated by the Conservatory on its campus.

Academic courses are provided by Aventa Learning by K12. Aventa is a fully accredited*, award-winning provider of high-quality, standard-based online courses for high school. All courses are aligned with Florida State standards. Aventa’s multimedia capabilities, such as avatars, Flash animation, interactive media, video presentations, audio narration, and games make course content come alive to engage students, foster comprehension and accommodate multiple learning styles. A comprehensive curriculum is offered including language arts, math, science, social studies, world languages, technology, advanced placement, and electives.

Students are assigned a qualified on-line teacher, employed by Aventa, who monitors their progress, responds to email and phone calls, hosts real-time weekly instructional sessions, posts weekly announcements and assignment feedback, and provides personalized instruction as needed.

Each weekday morning, students spend four hours of structured time together in HARID’s Learning Center. The students are supervised and assisted by two academic “mentors”, each of whom is a certified high-school teacher.

Fine-Arts Curriculum
During the academic year, HARID's curriculum provides a comprehensive dance education focusing primarily on classical ballet. Four years of study are offered and courses include ballet, partnering, classical variations, men's virtuoso technique, repertoire, character dance, modern dance, Spanish dance, jazz dance, An Introduction to Ballet Pedagogy, Pilates, music studies, dance history, music history, nutrition, and kinesiology.

During the first week of classes in August, each student is assessed and placed in an appropriate ballet class according to his or her age and ability. Placement in other courses is dependent upon the student's prior dance experience and academic grade level.

Performance Opportunities
Performing on stage before an audience is an integral part of every dancer's professional training. HARID presents two series of student performances annually (at the end of each semester) at the new 800-seat Countess de Hoernle Theater in Boca Raton.

HARID dancers are known and respected for the strength and clarity of their classical technique. They are also recognized for their versatility and quickness at learning and retaining choreography. These invaluable assets are developed through the regular inclusion of neo-classical, contemporary, and modern works in the school's repertoire.
